Overview Sonic Frontiers is, most likely, my favorite game of all time. It's at the very least my favorite Sonic game. I really don't know how to explain how much I love this game. It's like sonic team went into my brain and was like "let's make this autistic moron's perfect game." And brother they accomplished that perfectly.

Story okay, So. The story is pretty basic, at least for a sonic game. But god damn it i love it.
Sonic slowly getting more and more sick and hurt as he runs around these crazy old and mysterious islands, whilst helping his scared and imprisoned friends through their own personal battles? Already fucking awesome. But the WRITING MAN. ITS SO GOOD. Sonic randomly mentioning his old adventures and thinking about his friends with little lines like "haha _ would love this" IS SO FUCKING CUTE???? and eggman and sage's dynamics and their story. GOD.
my only complaint is how BADLY they fumbled the climax. It's a REALLY bad cop-out and I really wish the answer to the corruption wasn't just "let's hold hands around sonic." but final horizon's story fixed that COMPLETELY. final horizon's ending is canon as far as I'm concerned. that shit is PEAK.

Visuals I see a lot of people complaining about how this game is "too realistic" and looks like xenoblade or some shit and how it's "so off putting" with sonic being there and like. I'm sorry. I get it, it's not for everyone, but dude COME ON IT LOOKS SO COOL. I THINK ITS SO AWESOME. It hits the same part of my brain Shadow's realistic ass gun and motorcycle does. It's like is this kinda dumb? yeah. Is it literally the coolest thing ever? also yeah.
I just kinda wish the platforms looked better integrated? the rails being some random ass metal in the middle of nowhere is KINDA lame and dumb. But maaaann. who give a shit. That's a fuck ton of work to make EVERY rail and EVERY platform match PERFECTLY and blend in PERFECTLY. like would it be awesome if it did? yeah. Does it RUIN the game because it isnt that way? not even a little bit.

Gameplay Out of every Sonic game, Frontier's gameplay loop is unmatched. It is absolutely phenomenal and genuinely addicting for me. I have 100%ed this game 4 times, 2 of those being back to back.
I usually hate open world games, mostly because they always feel too open ended. I need structure, but a lot of games that have the structure I need are ones that you can only play once or are extremely short. Frontiers takes me at least 25 full hours to 100% each time I do it, and the first time it took me 40. It is NOT a short game, and the worlds are HUGE, but everything is so packed and full of things to do. If i get tired doing levels, I can go find the memory tokens. When I'm tired of tokens, I can do map challenges. When I'm tired of map challenges, I can get the special koco or music memories. There's just ALWAYS something to do and its SOOOO GOOOOD.
And when you're done on an island and you get to fight that awesome fucking boss? God it feels so good. The boss fights are so fucking cool dude I really don't even need to elaborate.

Soundtrack The soundtrack is probably my favorite part. IDK MAN. IF YOURE GONNA HAVE KELLIN QUINN OVER SUPER SONIC KILLING A GIANT CENTIPEDE IM GONNA BE HYPED.
But even ignoring the obvious bangers that are the boss themes, dude they nailed every track in this game. The ambient piano music in Kronos being interupted by the crazy insane dubstep whenever you enter cyberspace, dude its fucking awesome. I feel like a little kid in a candy store listening to this soundtrack. Kronos Island 7th mvt unironically was the only reason I made it through a plane ride, it somehow cured my motion sickness. idk how but dude. I love this fucking soundtrack
ALSO I NEED TO SAY THAT BREAK THROUGH IT ALL IS WAY TOO UNDERRATED WHEN IT COMES TO THE BOSS THEMES. FIND YOUR FLAME IS WAYYYY TOO OVERHYPED LIKE YEAH ITS GOOD BUT ITS SO MUCH MORE LAME THAN BREAK THROUGH IT ALL. SO IS THE ENTIRE KNIGHT FIGHT IM SORRY BUT WYVERN IS THE BEST BOSS AND ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE.

Overview I'm writing this review a little bit after Shadow x Sonic Generations dropped, and I have yet to play it. I hear a lot of good things about it, but this is about the original from 2011.
I played this game for the first time fairly recently, but I've heard people hype this game up since it launched. I'm extremely aprehensive whenever games are hyped up to the point Generations has been, but I get why people like this game so much! The gameplay is the best the series really had for years, and is still super good! And this is the only game that can get me to even remotely come close to liking classic sonic gameplay, so I'd take that as a win.

Story This story, I'll be honest, is god awful. Early Roger Craig Smith era has some of the WORST writing known to man, and this game is no different. But even beyond that, the general plot is really bad. It's a cute idea for an anniversary game, but that's as far as it goes. It serves its purpose and does nothing more.

Visuals This game's graphics are extremely good and hold up beautifully. I mean, it couldn't have gotten THAT much worse in retrospect, but they're still noticeably good.
Each level's colors are beautiful and they help to make every stage stand out and improve over their original counterparts. Genuinely the colors are the best part, it makes every level look like a painting. The animations are also pretty good, but nothing stands out to me in that area.

Gameplay I will start with this, I HEAVILY prefer modern Sonic gameplay in every scenario. I am just NOT a big fan of 2d platformers and I heavily prefer the speed of the boost gameplay.
With that out of the way, I will say, the classic Sonic gameplay in this is BY FAR the best I've played. This is the single game I can play and not cry from frustration because of that blue rat. He feels SO good in this game. He actually goes fast!!!! It's so awesome!!!!!! Jumping on enemies and making tight jumps actually feel GOOD in this game!!! it's a classic sonic miracle.
As for modern Sonic gameplay, I also really enjoy it!! I love how tight the level design in his stages are, it actually feels like this game was planned out and that everything is intentional! Low bar but yknow sonic team.
Only small thing I have to complain about is the final boss and the lives system. Lives are easier to dunk on so I'll do that part first- I hate lives in video games. They rarely add anything and just make me frustrated. Luckily, this game rarely had me struggle with lives, except for retrying stages for the collectables/achievements. And as for the finaly boss- IT SUCKS. I had to look up a tutorial because my first 2 attempts died to losing all my rings ToT. It's just not very well explained! And flying around as super sonic feels terrible :(

Soundtrack I mean, it's kind of hard to fuck up fan favorite tracks. But they really outdid themselves with the OST man. They preformed every track so well and some were MASSIVE improvements over the original.

Overview Idk what I was expecting when I played this. I THINK I played this after 06 (yeah i know) and after years of dealing with braindead Sonic Fandom Hivemind I kind of stopped trusting anything anyone said about any sonic game. So I remember having this thought of "what if this game is secretly ass?" and after playing through it once, and then a second time over a year later, yeah its really good :) I understand why everyone loves this game, and I also understand all the grievances people have. This game is EXTREMELY good for a 90s 3D platformer. But there's enough dumb little bullshit things where I understand if someone just doesn't click with it. I, personally, really love it! and i hope one day there will be some sort of HD remaster where they update the visuals and voice acting (and fix the weird geometry and glitches) because I think that would turn out beautifully... ... If it was done correctly that is (if sonic adventure gets a remake and it sucks I'm not surprised in the slightest)

Visuals I don't think it's "wrong" for me to say that the visuals in this game haven't aged super well. There's a lot of charm in these older graphics and low poly models, but it can be a little hard to ignore at times. My main issues come from the animations, however. ESPECIALLY the talking animations. good god. They are Bad.
For the tech at the time though, it still looks super good. The levels all have very specific and beautiful art directions, to the point where they are ALL extremely memorable. I would love a graphical overhaul of this game, but it's just fine as is. I still heavily prefer this style over the more "hyper-realism" take triple A titles have had in the past few years (frontiers gets a realism pass it looks so cool)

OverviewI am definitely not the first person to say this, but I feel like I am one of the most passionate, Sonic 06 is one of, if not the, most over hated game of all time. Let's get this out of the way, is this game good? Objectively, no, not really. Well then, is it at least the worst in the franchise? No. Culturally, yes, this game was literally Sonic 9/11. You could not go onto the internet from 2006 - 2015 without seeing constant hatred for this game. I would know, I lived it. But even as a small 5 year old kid, I knew this game was being blown WAY out of proportion. I hated this game because that's what you do. If you were a sonic fan, you had to hate Sonic 06. The sonic fandom has a MASSIVE echo chamber/hivemind issue. If one person says its bad, its bad. There is no nuance.
I went into this game thinking it would be the worst experience of my life, but I am not exaggerating when I say that I fell in love with this game. I legitimately woke up every day giddy and excited that I would be able to play it again. No other game has done that for me, at least not to the level this game has. Were there parts that left me frustrated, yes. Its Sonic 06. This game is hated for a reason. There are problems, I am not stupid. I know this game sucks. But, to me, I love it. The glitches are less like getting kicked in the nuts and more like you're trying to play fetch with your dog, but they don't know that they're supposed to bring the ball back. I don't feel frustrated when the game breaks, I feel like I'm playing with my pet and while yes, theyre being stupid, I can't be mad at them, because their tail is still wagging.

Story Can we be so fr. This game's story would be 1000x better recieved if Elise didn't have a romance arc with Sonic. Like, this story is honestly fine. I genuinely like it! I think time travel can be REALLY hard to do, but idk, it was fine! The romance between Elise and Sonic tho, jesus christ it's bad.
Another annoyance in the story is Amy. Her writing has consistantly been terrible up until like, Boom and later Frontiers, because she just didn't have a personality beyond Sonic. But her writing in this is noticeably bad. Specifically saying she would save Sonic instead of the ENTIRE world and that being treated like the "right" opinion???? Like no, I don't actually think the entire world should be destroyed for him. Ugh. Anyway, Mephiles is super super cool, and Silver is one of the best characters literally ever.

Visuals This may be an unpopular opinion, but the character models in this game are the best in the series. For every character BESIDES the humans. The humans in this game are the only reason the score is so low in this section. The NPCs and Eggman ESPECIALLY. But besides the humans, everyone looks so good!
The proportions and details specifically on these models are incredible. THEY HAVE FANGS!!!!! ITS ADORABLE!!!! And their limbs aren't stubby and weird. They don't look stupid when they cross their arms!! I mean they still kind of do but!!! Unironically these models are PEAK.
Also, okay the worlds are super barren, but idk! It looks fine!!! If the worlds were more filled out (aka if the team actually had time to FINISH THIS FUCKING GAME.) they would have looked great! As of how it is tho, the worlds and levels are serviceable.

Gameplay Okay. Some people are gonna be a little mad.
Sonic's story in this game is genuinely a 10/10 for me. I REALLY like his gameplay and how he controls. The glitches for Sonic's story never really bothered me, I could go through his story mostly fine with just a few trips along the way. I understand his gameplay is flawed, (specifically his final fight against eggman required me to look up a walkthrough) but when I play this game and think about how much fun I have with it, it almost all comes from Sonic's story. If you don't like his gameplay, you won't like Shadow or Silver's.
Silver's is... passable. His controls are good enough and work consistantly. My main issue with his story came down to the LENGTH of his levels. Specifically Flame Core, oh my god that level takes me SO. FUCKING LONG. Kingdom valley is also a low point for him, but the rest of his story is fine. Yes even the ball puzzle. I know this isn't a good thing that I have to do this, but I just glitch my way through the door blocking the exit. Like yeah that's stupid and shouldn't have to happen but its MY TIERLIST GO MAKE YOUR OWN.
Shadow's story is usually when I get a little burnt out with the game. It's. Fine. My biggest complaint with him are the vehicle sections, where they ALL play like ass. I always kinda celebrate when I get to play him after Silver (I always play in that order) because I finally get to actually FIGHT things. Also, his plot line is the best. His controls are pretty similar to Sonic's but good god the vehicle sections SUCK.
So, all together, the gameplay is fine. It's not even CLOSE to how bad people make it out to be. The controls are 1000x better than Adventure 2 and you can quote me on that. The levels CAN absolutely drag on and OBVIOUSLY there are bad parts that make me baby rage, but this game is fine. If you can emulate it (or have a copy to play physically if ur weird) I HIGHLY recommend because I NEED to know if I'm the only one that thinks this game is honestly fun as fuck.

Soundtrack I've heard people both say that the soundtrack of this game is the best part and also that it's just as bad. To the people who say it's the best part, I appreciate your opinion. To the people who say it's "just as bad", you're wrong and should feel bad about it.
I. REALLY love the soundtrack in this game. I know saying the main themes of the game are the best is a bit of a cop out, but!!!! dude its His World and Dreams of an Absolution. You're lying if you say the best tracks aren't either the one that says "kickin' ass fast" or the one written about the artist's gay lover.
Even besides those two tracks, there are a LOT of level themes that are AMAZING. I remember a week or so after playing o6, at like 5 am, I was FRANTICALLY looking for the Aquatic Base theme, except I couldn't remember what stage it was (I was... inebriated to say the least) so I listened to every single track and nearly cried when I found it 2 hours later. Anyway it's now one of my favorite Sonic tracks ever.

Overview Forces was the first Sonic game I've finished, yeah I know. And it was pretty recently, like within the past few years. I'm just EXTREMELY bad at platformers man. Anyway, at the time of first finishing this game, I was confused on why so many people HATED this game. After playing some better games since, I can say that I'm starting to see where people's issues arise. Do I think this game is as bad as people make it out to be? No, not even close. But, it's still not GOOD. It's just unbearably mid.
I think it's a REALLY good first Sonic game, but only for younger people. It's a little boring and VERY easy, but it's fine. It's not terrible, it's not a masterpiece, it's fine. If you aren't comfortable with platformers or want a REALLY easy starting game, play Forces. If you're more confident with your abilities and want to start with a better overall game, play Generations.

Story Ugh.
I'll be honest, the writing kind of ruins any semblance of a plot this game has. The overall plot and overarching story is honestly a really good concept! But god the one-liners and character interactions really hurt this game. It's bad. Sonic's whole prison era was so poorly done. And I really wish his interactions with the self-insert were more earnest and less... forced (funni joke)

Visuals The visuals in this game are kind of forgettable. Infinite's glitch effect was cool looking! The aesthetic was alright! But overall the game just felt so dimly lit and a little bland. It was servicable.

Gameplay It's been said a LOT about this game but I'll say it again, this game is VERY easy. And that's coming from me, Mr. "can't play unleashed past the first tornado section" and Mr. "Every game should have an easy mode (STILL A TRUE STATEMENT BTW.)" But I think this is a good thing actually! I don't think every game should be hard or should be the same difficulty level. Forces is kinda MEANT to be a game for younger fans, specifically the autistic ones that want to be friends with Sonic IRL and save the world from a war (me).
What I'm saying is that if this game came out when I was like, 9, it would be my favorite game of all time and I would have played it 1000 times. And I think games like this should exist!! Easy to play and easy to digest games are good! Just not for everyone :)

Soundtrack This soundtrack didn't really stick with me all that much. The dubstep is REALLY fun and a cool identity for this game but... the cyberspace levels in Frontiers have more memorable tracks. OverviewOne of the first things you may notice is how this score is higher than the game above this one. thats for a reason. I adore this game, but I literally can't play it. The reason it's so low on the list is because of my lack of ability to complete it, and the grievances I have with it during the time I did play. If it was just my raw feelings about it, it would be #1. But alas, it's a game, and not just a concept. So, it's down here.
Now, with that out of the way. Let me gush about how much this game means to me. Sonic Unleashed has affected me in so many ways, and I would not be even remotely the same person without it. I am not exaggerating when I say that despite not even attempting to play it until 2023, I have thought about this game at least once a day, everyday, for my entire life. The werehog is my favorite concept/character/form/whatever you want to call him ever. Sonic's relationship with his werehog form has stuck with me for years. Even just the way people talk about this game sticks with me. This strong dislike that has always been around the game, people calling it "weird furry bait" and reducing to nothing but "the beginning of the boost gameplay" and repeating for years that "colors is better" is something I feel almost spiritually connected to. Okay well maybe its not that serious, but I do identify with this game very heavily. The werehog is so me fr fr and I am so him fr fr. Also something something werehog was one of my trans awakenings and also was one of the things that got me into art etc etc. i love you sonic unleashed.

OverviewI have. A weird relationship with this game. I know this game is mid, I know this game isn't important or popular or whatever, but... I've always really liked it. I've never even played it until recently (mostly because my family just didn't have a wii and I only just now got one in 2024) but I still really like it. Maybe I just really like the aesthetic? Maybe I just really like the concept? Maybe this is all just because I saw the CGI opening as a small child and thought it was really cool. That's probably it. But still, I like this game. Overview This game. ugh.
So, I have never gotten through the hero story of this game. For a GOOD reason. I CAN NOT CONTROL THIS SHIT ASS GAME.
I tried playing the steam port with an xbox controller, it was hell, I could barely get through the 3rd level. So, I researched, and saw some people say it controls better on dolphin emulator, so i set that up and played with my same controller, it was better but still ass. So, I was like "maybe this controller just isnt the right one?" So after I got my own wii and gamecube controller i played it again. and it was WORSE.
idk if im just???? stupid??? but everytime i play this game. I feel like I'm fighting just to move. Sonic either goes 10000 mph or its like pushing a boulder, tail's mech weirdly moves fine but jumping is hell. Knuckles is, for some reason, the easiest to control BY FAR. I never got past green forest. And I probably never will, because I would just rather play adventure 1.

StoryThe story of this game is the only reason I even still bother trying to play it. I want to love this game, but I can't. So, I just watch the cutscenes on youtube. The story is iconic for a reason man. Its goofy and stupid as fuck but its so awesome. When it was adapted into sonic x bro? that was the most banger shit in the world. I remember every single story beat despite never playing this game until last year. God its just the perfect sonic story. You really can't get much better.

Overview Realistically, this game, to me, is a 6/10. In my heart, however, this game is a 1/10.
I am the BIGGEST classic sonic hater in the world. That blue rat pisses me off SO MUCH. and this game kinda just cemented that in my mind forever.
I'm sorry, but classic sonic games just aren't fucking good. They aren't designed to be fun, they're designed for a bunch of redditors who miss "le hecking awesome good ol' days" when they were 4 playing sonic 2. This game's level design is frustrating and brought me to tears at certain parts.
The only things that kept me going were 1, the visuals, 2, the soundtrack, and 3, the fact I kept making the joke that I had to finish it in call with my friend.
But the thing I hate MOST about this game is how people talk about it. The fact this came out around the same time as forces was DEVASTATING to the Sonic Fandom Hivemind. This game IS the Hivemind. its the "le hecking chungus awesome classic sonic game that every sonic game should be!!!!" but every time a game is influenced by classic sonic it fucking sucks. I hate the way people talk about this game. I hate the way people treat this game like the "gold standard." I hate that this game is the only one people care about. I hate that 90% of sonic merch is classic sonic because it reminds me of this game. I hate that this game is nothing but nostalgia bait for losers who call women femoids. I. HATE. THIS. GAME.

This game is a museum level baby sensory video.

And how the 2 modern Sonic games that were compared to each other non-stop were Unleashed and this one, and how everyone said unleashed was weird furry bait and how this one was peak and the best. And now that colors ultimate came out everyone actually had to play this game again and they all realized it's kinda mid/ass and they're all pretending like they've ALWAYS hated it even though everyone who's older that 12 remembers exactly how everyone talked about this game for a decade+ and how much they rode it's dick. Yeah, I do too.
Oh yeah sorry, I'm supposed to be writing a game review. Yeah this game is mid and kind of ass. I've felt that way since it dropped.

Story This story is fucking terrible. The writing has the "early Roger Craig Smith era writing" curse where every line of dialogue is a one-liner and 4th wall breaking. There's a couple cute lines, I'm honestly still a fan of the copyright joke. And Orbot/Cubot are cute and fun. Also the whole idea of Eggman making an amusement park is really fucking funny.

Visuals Man, It's a wii game. The Colors (lol) in this game are very vibrant and beautiful and I like the level ideas! But The resolution REALLY hinders this game. It's fine, It's nothing BREATHTAKING but it's still good. I'm not very passionate about the art direction in this game.

I played this game with my friend right after finishing boom. So my expectations were LOW. I heard growing up that this game was WILDLY mid and was just a mario galaxy clone. So I was expecting a generally boring but fine experience. And up until the Ice world, yeah! Minus the Galaxy clone claim, it is just. Fine. It was kind of enjoyable at times! But that fucking Ice world. Something CHANGED in me.
Every level after starting the Ice world until the end of the game was AGONY. and the GOD FUCKING AWFUL """"STORY"""" WAS ONLY MAKING IT WORSE. This game doesn't teach you any mechanic. This game is trial and error with a coat of paint to make it look cool. This game radicalized me into hating lives in video games. NO game should have limited lives. The second half of this game made me MURDEROUS.
This game is the worst part of classic sonic mixed in with a shitty mario rage rom hack slapped into a CD with some pretty colors and a big sticker on the front saying "Remember sonic from da 90s???? remember badniks?????? you love classic sonic and mario!!!!!!!! you'll LOOOOVEEE this!!!!"

Story THIS STORY IS THE WORST SHIT I'VE EVER BEEN FORCED TO ENDURE EVER. THIS IS NOT A STORY. THIS IS SOME 5 YEAR OLD PLAYING WITH LEGOS. The deadly six are the worst fucking sonic characters ever and its not even close. They should have been BURNED after this game.
Every character is out of character. Every interaction is stupid and bad. Every joke makes me want to bash my head into a wall. I have held this opinion since this game released. You can not write a worse sonic story than this. I would have preferred 0 story by a mile.

Overview When starting Sonic boom, I was expecting a Sonic 06 situation. Where everyone complaining was just over exaggerating and was infected with the Sonic Fandom Hivemind Virus. But no, they were completely correct. If anything, I don't think people complain about this game ENOUGH.
This game. holy shit. There was not a single second where I was actually like, GENUINELY happy to be playing. I had a TON of fun playing it, but only because I played it with my friend and we made our own crazy ass story line and we did the knuckles glitch over every obstacle we couldn't be bothered to figure out.
This game is fucking exhausting. every level feels like it goes on for 70 years. the overworld is impossible to navigate. The combat genuinely made me want to rip my eyes out. and the story was so unfathomably boring and mid. Don't bother playing this game. Don't bother paying for a copy of this game. Just watch the TV show.

Overview This is not a remake of colors. This is Sonic colors but they tied it to the back of a truck and drove across the country whilst making sure to kick it in its balls and light its pubes on fire at every gas station.
I bought this game off of ebay for my switch whilst recovering from surgery, I wanted something to do whilst I could barely get up and move for a week. I played this game for 2 hours and never touched it again. I could not get this game to run higher than 15 fps. There are multiple levels where I'm lucky to get it over 10. The visuals of this game make me genuinely mad for how BAD they fucked it up.
This should have never been released. This "game" is the brilliant diamond and shining pearl of the sonic series. where its so obvious they never bothered to fix any of the issues because they know people will buy it, because its the "le epic awesome game they played as kids."
